Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met Monday a delegation of the American-Jewish Committee, headed by Stanley Bergman, to discuss Egyptian-US relations.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Badr Abdelatty said Shoukry discussed with the delegation the Palestinian cause, the importance of establishing a sovereign Palestinian state, and the efforts to resume peace negotiations with Israel.

The meeting also dealt with the issue of terrorism worldwide, during which Bergman paid condolences for the victims of the recent attacks in Egypt.

Last week witnessed the assassination of Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat following an explosion that targeted his car. Also, the fight between armed forces personnel and North Sinai militants left 17 security personnel dead and 13 others injured.

Bergman expressed the delegation’s solidarity with Egypt in its war against terrorism.

Shoukry further stressed Egypt’s firm stance against terrorism and the importance of the international community’s stand in fighting this global phenomenon.

Egypt’s armed forces are currently engaged in a war against terrorism in North Sinai, where Egypt has been witnessing a high insurgency.
