The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade has placed an emergency plan to supply subsidised food commodities through Eid Al-Fitr, the holiday that follows the month of Ramadan.

The ministry will supply additional quantities of wheat used to produce bread, along with other food products in consumer complexes.

The plan seeks to predict bottlenecks and study the market prior to the holiday, the supply ministry highlighted. The expiry dates of products and their sources will be examined, the ministry said, explaining that intensified inspection campaigns will take place.

Prior to Ramadan, the Ministry of Finance allocated EGP 500m as an additional subsidy for the commodities of the ration cards. This was within the EGP 6.7bn offered by the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Supply for several purposes.

With the increasing prices of food items due to continuously rising inflation rates, Egyptian families spend a large amount of money on food during Ramadan due to the traditions of the month.
