Policeman killed, another injured in Alexandria

One police officer was killed and another injured in the Montazah area of Alexandria, according to a representative from the Ministry of Interior press office.

The assailants have yet to be identified.

Saturday saw a policeman killed and another injured in a drive-by shooting, involving two gunmen, in Giza. They were among other security personnel guarding the HSBC and Union National Bank branches in Sphinx Square in Mohandesin, Giza.

Last week, a police conscript was shot by a militant while he was driving a prisoner transport vehicle in the Sidi Gaber district of Alexandria. Only a day earlier, militants opened fire on an armed forces officer on his way to work in El-Marg, in north-east Cairo. He was transferred to hospital due to multiple injuries as a result of the attack.

Policemen and army personnel have been a target by assailants and militants recently in governorates across Egypt particularly in the restive Sinai Peninsula.
