A spokesman of the armed forces announced the destruction of one “terrorist cell” in Ismailia on Sunday, in a campaign engineered by the armed forces and police special forces to combat militancy.

During the raid one militant, allegedly from the Sinai-based militant group Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis, was killed, and three others were arrested, according to a Sunday statement by the army.

The raid also resulted in the capturing of a number of automatic weapons, ammunitions, and explosive devices. They were reportedly “used by terrorist groups to carry out criminal operations against the armed forces and civilian police elements”

Several raids took place on Saturday, according to a Sunday statement from the office of the armed forces spokesman. As a result, 23 “terrorist elements” were arrested across four governorates including North Sinai, Ismailia, Daqahleya and Port Said.
