A Latin princess wears her crown and walks around distributing her gifts of chocolate beverages, smiling faces fill the place. This is how Ehab Mourad, the founder of Scelerisque describes the imaginary scene that inspired his company’s logo.

Scelerisque, a chocolate beverages company, recently opened its first shop in Cairo.

“Chocolate as a drink has been linked to Gods and royalties in the Latin heritage,” Mourad said. “I wanted to go back to the origin.”

The company, which borrows its name from the Latin word for chocolate beverage, is the first to create products inspired by this concept, he said, adding: “We want to present an Egyptian concept with international standards.”

Scelerisque’s menu, which includes 90% original drinks, has received positive feedback so far, he said.

“Scelerisque Mint” (EGP 16 ), one hot drink the place offers, is a blend of espresso, dark chocolate, mint and whipped cream on the top. “Banana White Chocolate” (EGP16) is a rich cold drink for white chocolate lovers, loaded with banana, vanilla ice cream, milk and coconut flavour.  “French Paul,” (EGP19) combines Maltesers chocolate together with chocolate sauce for an extra dose of cacao.

Scelerisque also offers a few coffee options and bakery items, such as doughnuts and muffins (EGP 8).

The company is planning to open another branch in the coming few months, Mourad said, and hopes to be able to franchise by 2016.

“The most important segment to us is the dedicated entrepreneurs,” he said, mentioning small shops and kiosks in universities as examples. “They have the same mentality like ours.”

Scelerisque’s address is 13 Gamal Nooh streer, from Thawra street, Heliopolis, Cairo.
