Nation’s two most popular teams lose in Egyptian Premier League matches this week

The two teams with the widest fan base in Egypt, Al-Ahly and Al-Zamalek, both lost 1-0 against Dakhlia and Al-Masry respectively, in games played on Monday.

Dakhlia’s win against Al-Ahly was secured by Guinean national Lama Kone in the first half of the match. Al-Ahly maintained its ranking as the fourth in Group 1, while Somouha, after a score-less draw with Ghazl Al-Mahalla, maintained its position as the top team in Group 1 with 26 points, the highest number of points in both groups.

Al-Zamalek lost to Port Said-based Al-Masry in a game delayed from match-day 12. Mohamed Shaarawy scored the single goal in  the match for the Port Said-based team, with the victory moving the team’s rank up to fourth in Group 2, while Al-Zamalek moved down to the sixth position.

Wadi Degla beat Al-Minya 3-1, with Ahmed Saeed Salah El-Din securing two goals for the victor. Salah El-Din was the first to score in the game, scoring the only goal of the first half in 28th minute. Fellow player Mohab Saeed scored during the second game in the 63rd minute. Al-Minya brought the score closer, with a goal by Ayman Hassanein in the 78th minute, but Salah El-Din struck back with a last minute-goal.

Match-day 13 saw six games ending with draws, with the only scoreless draw being Somouha’s. After a 1-1 draw with Haras Al-Hodood, Petrojet leads Group 2, with 22 points, followed by Ismaily, which also drew 1-1 with Telephonat Beni Suef.
