The public prosecution on Sunday ordered the release of ousted president Mohamed Morsi’s son, who was arrested Saturday for alleged illegal drug use.

Authorities found Abdullah Morsi and his friend in a car on the outskirts of Cairo where they were allegedly in possession of five grams of cannabis byproducts, state-run MENA reported.

The two men were released on bail, according to state-run Al-Ahram. Their blood and urine tested negative for illegal drugs.

Lawyer Mohamed Zare’, who heads the Arab Penal Reform Organisation, said because Morsi’s son was found in possession of illegal narcotics, he could face charges of drug abuse and be sentenced to a maximum of three years in prison.
