Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis (Supporter of Jerusalem) released a statement Sunday morning claiming responsibility for shooting down a military helicopter in North Sinai on Saturday, among other attacks.

The Al-Qaeda inspired group also said it was behind attacks on military support forces in the area surrounding Jura International Airport using heavy weapons, a bombardment of Al Zohour camp with mortars, and the shooting of soldier in the Al-Kharouba ambush on Saturday.

According to the statement, another group called Agnad Masr (Egypt’s Troops) attacked Al-Talbya police station, pointing out that that Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis had “mistakenly” claimed responsibility for the bombing, since it was targeting a patrol in front of that station.

The group also apologised for taking responsibility for the Behouth metro station explosion on Friday, saying that they and their “brothers” Agnad Masr were working in the same area, which lead to a false notification.

Greater Cairo has witnessed at least five bombings the past two days, four of which occurred on Friday and were ascribed to Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis.
