A Central Security Forces (CSF) captain and a militant were killed in a firefight in Ard Al-Game’yat district in Ismailia on Tuesday early morning, according to Ministry of Interior spokesman Hany Abdel Latif.

CSF Captain Ahmed Wahid was a part of a security operation to arrest a “terrorist” who had been hiding in a residential building in Ard Al-Game’yat district, according to an interior ministry Tuesday statement.

Wahid was seriously injured when a firefight ignited between the militant and security forces, which resulted in the death of the militant. The interior ministry statement said the militant initiated the clash by opening fire on security forces.

The statement added that security forces found two machineguns, an RPG missile, material and equipment used in manufacturing bombs and a “huge” amount of ammunition inside the militant’s residence.

Ismailia was the scene of an earlier explosion last Thursday when a car bomb exploded near the headquarters of the Central Security Services. The explosion caused one death and 22 injuries.

Minister of Interior Mohamed Ibrahim later vowed that the perpetrators of the explosion will be “apprehended soon” during his visit to the explosion site on Friday.
