The 30 June protest movement represents a continuation of the 25 January Revolution, the June 30 Front said in a Monday press conference addressing the international community.

“The Egyptian people voiced their decision, but Mohamed Morsi chose to side with his party and maintained a policy of exclusion,” said activist Ahmed Douma in the press statement.

Douma added that ousted president Mohamed Morsi had restricted freedoms and incited violence against the opposition. Douma highlighted the former president’s speech in support of Syria where his advocates had instigated violence in his presence, which, according to Douma, resulted in the death of four Egyptian Shi’a Muslims.

He went on to say: “Muslim Brotherhood rule turned Egypt into a failed state and made it a fertile ground for Jihadists” and that the former president’s policies had pushed the country to the brink of civil war.

Douma ended his statement by stressing that the armed forces supported the will of the people in an effort to start building a democratic system.
