On Saturday, the Revolutionary Youth Alliance (RYA) along with the Egyptian National Movement Party (ENM) started a sit-in outside the Ministry of Defence in Abasseya.

The sit-in followed a protest organised by controversial television presenter Tawfiq Okasha  on Friday in front of the ministry to condemn the governors’ reshuffle and demand early presidential elections and constitutional amendments.

Hesham Hashem, deputy founder on the ENM party said, “We [the protesters] are not giving ourselves names or labels, we are all uniting under the greater name of Egypt”.

Hashem said that the protesters are requesting that the army “claim responsibility of the country and get rid of the Muslim Brotherhood rule” this he said must also be accompanied with dissolving the Shura Council, drafting a new constitution and holding early presidential elections.

The RYA is a political faction that wants to give more political power to the youth. The ENM was founded by former presidential candidate Ahmed Shafiq.
