The fourth annual International Indigenous Art Biennale in Quito, Ecuador saw two Egyptian artists, Shady Salama and Nadia Serry, honoured with awards in different disciplines.

The Biennale ran from the 2 to 14 October and upon its conclusion, Salama was given the top prize in the installations section of the Biennale while Serry was awarded a special prize for photography with watercolours.

Five Egyptian artists were included in the Biennale; Amany Zahran, Mostafa el Azraq and Waleed Qanush, besides Salama and Serry.

The awards come as a sign of Egypt and Egyptian artists’ significance in propelling the region’s art scene forward. Artist Shady Salama said the prize for the installations was chosen taking the opinion of both the international jury and of the audience and visitors into consideration. He expressed overwhelming happiness over winning the award and thanked both the jury and audience.
