While it is generally accepted that Robert De Niro can do whatever he wants given his legendary status in cinema, teaming up with 50 cent is pushing it. Even with Forrest Whitaker this film is hard to stomach. 50 cent plays the son of a murdered police officer who joins the police force and graduates to work with his superior, who is played by De Niro and becomes part of his rogue task force.
While it is generally quite difficult to accept that 50 cent can play a son of anyone, it is even more difficult to imagine him acting. This is one of the few films that could give you a scare, unlike most horror films, because of 50 cent’s performance. With that in mind, it would be better if you do not ruin your image of De Niro and skip this one. Maybe he thought he was doing a parody?

It seems there is no end in sight when it comes to horror films starring young, scantily clad females. The Apparition is the latest. The film has been aptly described as having the potential to “give you a restless night, but only because you fell asleep in the theatre” by Entertainment Weekly’s Keith Staskiewicz. Though the film is quite short, spare yourself this badly-executed rehash of paranormal activity. The film’s plot revolves around a couple who find an entity, (we think it could be ‘the apparition’ itself but we may be wrong), that appeared as the result of a previous college parapsychological experiment (and now we know). The entity feeds off their fear and torments them as they turn to a supernatural expert to help them. You could wish for their salvation if you could find a way to care for the characters but you will not. Trust us.

Liam Neeson back in Europe! But wait, what’s this? Istanbul? How inventive! Surely now, you should have no trouble paying to see the same film again! If Liam Neeson with a gun and a semi-exploding Istanbul did not tip you off, then we cannot do much more for you. This time, ex-CIA agent Brian Mills gets taken hostage along with his wife by the father of a kidnapper Mills killed while rescuing his daughter in the first film (are you following the story?). The film is not without its moments and can be entertaining if you like improbable action films with ridiculous plot lines, something that made the first one very popular. The film could be mindless entertainment but critics say it fails to match its prequel’s defining moments that helped it succeed (whatever those were).
